That’ll be Adelaide

The weekend 9–11 November saw three days of rock’n’roll and hot rods in Adelaide. It was the 3rd That'll Be The Weekend festival held by the Adelaide rock‘n’roll Club. Three functions that had something for everyone. On Friday night the weekend kicked off with a car cruise through the suburbs of Adelaide. 320 hot rods cruised the streets creating much interest. The cruise began at the Bunnings Car Park in Mile End and finished at the Brighton Football Club where everyone was entertained by the Rockin' Royals. There were 200 people inside and many more outside checking out all the rods. On Saturday 715 rockers and their rods took over the Mitsubishi plant in Tonsley Park. the function was held in the canteen, a room big enough to hold everyone and several hot rods. Two bands entertained the enthusiastic crowd, local band Get Back, and from Queensland came The Chevrolets. On Sunday it was an open air gig. That'll Be The Day At The Bay. 6 hours of rock’n’roll music on the parkland foreshore at Glenelg Beach. The bands were Rockafellas, Jump'n'Jive (Adelaide band), It's Showtime, Wise Guys, Happy Daze, and The Chevrolets. The weather was threatening to be a problem, but in the end it brightened up. At least 6000 people enjoyed the music, the hot rods and classic bikes, in a fun family atmosphere. ABC television personality Paul Makin was MC. There were vendors selling the usual take-away food, and the Adelaide Rock‘n’Roll Club had a tent selling memorabilia. The whole weekend was a fund raiser for The Make A Wish Foundation. More than $12,000 was raised by the Adelaide club for this worthy cause. There were hot rod rides and Harley rides to be had for a donation to the cause. The Australian Street Rod Federation and The Vietnam Veteran Motor Cycle Club worked hard to make the weekend a success.
